Face Front, True Believers! On July 14, 2000, the Marvel cinematic universe truly began with the debut of X-Men, the motion picture! For the first time since movie serials, comic book heroes were adapted to the silver screen 100% straight(?), rather than as juvenile-skewing or camp! Blade may have been the first "good" and successful Marvel movie, and it surely influenced X-Men, but this was the film that proved that the complex soap opera of modern comics could be sold to a mainstream audience! X-Men revealed that a super-team property could launch a sprawling franchise, guided in part by Kevin Feige, and paving the way for the true Marvel Cinematic Universe! It's such a big deal, Diabolu Frank, Illegal Machine, and Mr. Fixit decided to celebrate Rolled Spine's sixth anniversary discussing it, 2003's X2: X-Men United and 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand in one Giant-Sized episode! Bamf! Snikt! Excelsior!
